Operations & Shop Maintenance
Location: St. Albert
Reports to: Shop Forman

Sturgeon Valley Fertilizers Ltd. is looking for a confident and experienced heavy equipment operator. This role will be key in running, maintaining and upkeeping the St. Albert TerraGator floaters. During the non-operational times, this role will work collaboratively in the shop to complete shop related maintenance tasks. Skills The ideal candidate will have a background in operating various types of equipment such as forklift, skid steer, farm equipment (combine, floater, baler, etc.), truck and trailer, etc. they will also have a mechanical aptitude and a high level of integrity towards quality work.

Equipment Operator
• Operate custom application equipment to apply crop protection products and fertilizer
•Calibrate and check rates throughout the day to ensure accurate application
•Ensure the proper herbicides and mixing orders are used
•Monitoring weather and ensuring application conditions is within tolerance
•Communicate with the agronomist and custom services coordinator to ensure timely and accurate application
•Communicate with the custom services coordinator of any changes or additional product requirements
•Communicate with the shop staff to trouble shoot and correct equipment problems
•Communicate with the shop staff to order parts and confirm purchase order number
•Responsible for basic equipment maintenance (greasing, cleaning distributors, oil and fluid check, etc.)
•Keep equipment clean and tidy throughout the season. At the end of the spring and fall season give a complete clean of the machine to help minimize fertilizer corrosion.
•Complete documentation for each custom job and hand in to the custom services coordinator daily
•Ensure all products taken from the plant is either used and invoiced or returned to warehouse
•Ensure understanding of all maps and directions to arrive at proper destination for jobs
•Communicate and coordinate with dry delivery drivers where to unload product in the field
•Ensure floater is ready for the next day’s work at the end of the day (Fuel etc.)


Shop Technician
•Assist on repairs and maintenance on trucks and plant equipment when appropriate
•Assist shop staff with picking up parts and equipment
•Assist customers with loading and unloading products from warehouse
•Assist in operating skid steer loader in fertilizer facility and snow removal if required
•Offer training, guidance, and assistance to newer, seasonal staff

Must be able to climb to heights as tall as 100 feet
Class 5 is a requirement Class 1 or 3 is considered an asset
Legally entitled to work in Canada is a requirement Clean drivers abstract
Must be able to lift a minimum 50 lbs
