The Pea Leaf Weevil is steadily moving North through Alberta. They overwinter in shelterbelts, ditches, and perennial legumes. When temperatures reach above 17°C they begin to migrate, flying from field to field.
The larvae feed on nodules, impeding Nitrogen fixation. The adult Weevils will chew directly on pea, faba, and/or soybean leaves. To prevent damage, an insecticide seed treatment is prescribed. Seed treatments are a much more effective method than using a foliar insecticide to treat Pea Leaf Weevil.
